Artist’s Note

When I welcome a conversation between myself and the materials, I dance on, claw, and smother the layers. The response from the material is seen through the way that it squishes between my fingers and toes to spread on the plywood, as well as the dripping motion when I lean it against a surface to dry. Having a conversation with the materials is essential to my practice. Giving and taking control feels like an exchange of information – it frees me from my expectation of what the artwork will become. The back and forth that I initiate with the material mirrors the habitual nature of human connection. I am both giving and taking back femininity in architecture and blue collar work.
