Artist’s Note

Life is something that is not guaranteed, but glorious when experienced. We come from the earth when we are created, and we will return to that living organism when death consumes us. Memento mori, the idea that any moment could be our last, is an inspiration of mine. More inspiration comes from ecofeminist texts like The Sexual Politics of Meat by Carol J. Adams, the ecological novel Prodigal Summer by Barbara Kingsolver, and ecofeminist art aesthetic book, The Reenchantment of Art by Suzi Gablik. When thinking about these texts and the ideas stemming from them, I questioned what it means to be connected to the earth as a human. This exhibition of artworks are a direct response to my relationship with the earth—showing the process of returning my mind, body, and soul to her.
